Local knowledge
Most challenging Delaware break due to strong tidal currents through the inlet. South side is better for advanced surfers. Not for beginners โ currents can be dangerous. Best at mid-tide to avoid peak current.
Beach fee
Delaware State Parks fee: $5/vehicle (in-state), $10/vehicle (out-of-state). Annual pass $35 in-state, $70 out-of-state โ excellent value if you surf DE regularly. Walk-ins and cyclists: $2โ4. Fee active Memorial Day through Labor Day primarily.
Parking
Parking lot right at the inlet โ fills quickly on summer weekends. Arrive before 10am to guarantee a spot. Annual DE State Parks pass ($35โ70) makes entry fast and cost-effective. Off-season: free or reduced fee. No transit โ car only.
Transit
No transit service โ car only. DART buses serve Rehoboth and Dewey further north but do not reach Indian River Inlet. This is a dedicated surf drive destination.
