Outgoing tide can produce strong currents โ€” approach with care

Jetty/beach break โ€” south side best

Advanced โ€” inlet currents and power require experience

Strong tidal currents, rocks near inlet structure, locals

Best season

Fall and winter

Local knowledge

Most challenging Delaware break due to strong tidal currents through the inlet. South side is better for advanced surfers. Not for beginners โ€” currents can be dangerous. Best at mid-tide to avoid peak current.

Beach fee

Delaware State Parks fee: $5/vehicle (in-state), $10/vehicle (out-of-state). Annual pass $35 in-state, $70 out-of-state โ€” excellent value if you surf DE regularly. Walk-ins and cyclists: $2โ€“4. Fee active Memorial Day through Labor Day primarily.

Parking

Parking lot right at the inlet โ€” fills quickly on summer weekends. Arrive before 10am to guarantee a spot. Annual DE State Parks pass ($35โ€“70) makes entry fast and cost-effective. Off-season: free or reduced fee. No transit โ€” car only.

Transit

No transit service โ€” car only. DART buses serve Rehoboth and Dewey further north but do not reach Indian River Inlet. This is a dedicated surf drive destination.
